As Bangladesh has ratified the International Labour Organization’s Worst Forms of Child Labour settlement but it has not authorized the minimum age.

Researchers found that in the leather supply chain, animal homicide and skinning to dyeing, waste disposal and manufacturing of leather products children aged between seven to seventeen, they are working around 12 to 14 hours a week.

Another case showed that child tannery workers had continuous severe burns when the barrel of hydrochloric acid they were carrying from the shop to the tannery broke open. This is the nastiest form of child labour but still, they are forced to do that just because to sustain their livelihoods.

It is about time that we as a nation abort child labour with significant authorizations of an education and learning and ultimately being robbed of their childhood. So we urge the government to take an effective removal program for child labourers and provide access to education and skills development training including alternative income generation opportunities for their families. The child tannery workers sustained severe burns when the barrel of hydrochloric acid they were carrying from the shop to the tannery broke open. Besides they also face other forms of verbal abuse and physical abuse and are threatened by their employers for being slow or making mistakes. Where the industry associations did not admit the worst forms of child labour do not exist in their sector and they run their businesses as per synchronized.

Regrettably, we are still far from a developing nation as still our children are working in factories deprived of an education and learning and ultimately being robbed of their childhood. So we urge the government to take an effective removal program for child labourers and provide access to education and skills development training including alternative income generation opportunities for their families.
