Green EEE Club in collaboration
with IEEE Power & Energy Society, GUB Students Branch Chapter successfully
completed a virtual talk about “Image Processing on MATLAB” having around 50-60
participants from different universities as part of EEE Day – 2021 (Beyond
Virtual) celebration on 30th October 2021 at 11.00 am.

The session was inaugurated
with a warm introductory speech from Mr. Naushad Ali Lecturer. Dept. of EEE,
Green University of Bangladesh & Deputy Moderator – EEE Club on the
history behind EEE Day and how it’s been a flagship event in EEE Green since
2016. Mr. Md. Sayed Tanveer Azam, Lecturer, Dept. of EEE, Green University
of Bangladesh, shared his broad expertise in the emerging area of image
processing as a keynote speaker. He started the seminar with some applications
of image processing, an introduction to the MATLAB environment, and some
commonly used algorithms from the computer vision toolbox for image
enhancement, segmentation, acquisition, restoration, compression – encryption,
and object detection. He also made participants familiar with how image
processing can be more efficient using convolutional neural networks and
machine learning techniques, and lastly, some hands-on projects in the MATLAB
environment.

He
mainly focused on region-based segmentation using pixel values of training
images and why this could vary for the objects and the image’s background if
there’s a sharp contrast between them. He also demonstrated how image
enhancement works by improving the quality and information content of original
data before processing it, including contrast enhancement, spatial
filtering, and density slicing, expanding the original range of gray level, and
also showed some importance of the object detection method in image processing
as well.
Lastly,
the event ended by giving a certificate of appreciation from the Green EEE Club
and IEEE PES GUB Students Branch Chapter.
